AUD Components

In the AUD section of the CPA Exam, multiple choice questions account for 70% of the overall score. Questions appear in 3 sets or testlets that adapt to your current skill level, meaning that the first set of questions are a medium difficulty level and if you perform well the next set of questions will get harder (and are worth more points) or if you perform poorly the next set of questions will get easier (and are worth fewer points).

The remaining 30% of the score comes from completing simulations, which are miniature case studies that require practical application of skills such as research, written communication, and spreadsheet design.

  • Hey, this is the only one I have left. I am going through my first busy season. Will any real life experience actually help with this exam? or is predominantly book knowledge?

  • Real life definitely helps. This is the one part that I have passed without great effort. Being on the job really helped.

  • This is really where the quality of your internship as an undergrad can help you. If you worked in a good one in which you were given real, meaningful task than that level of on the job experience is invaluable for exams.

AUD Time Limits

The time allocated for completing the Auditing and Attestation (AUD) section of the CPA Exam is 4.5 hours.

  • I hate auditing. Fortunately for me, auditing involves a lot of memorization and there is plenty of time to answer all of the questions. I expect auditing to be my easiest exam.

CPA Exam: Auditing and Attestation

"The Auditing and Attestation section covers knowledge of auditing procedures, auditing standards generally accepted in the United States of America (GAAS) and other standards related to attest engagements and the skills needed to apply that knowledge in auditing and other attestation engagements. This section tests such knowledge and skills in the context of the five broad engagement tasks in the outline that follows (Uniform CPA Examination: Examination of Contents, 2002, p. 3)."

  • How long does it take to get your scores back on this section? I took it July 1, in Utah. Does it take longer if you take it at the beginning of the two month testing period? Thanks!

  • They release the scores in waves, there are 2 waves per testing window.(typically the first month is the first wave) They release first wave scores around the 17th of the following month. Therefore you should be getting you scores mid to late August. Here is a website that updates score release dates and predictions: http://www.another71.com/cpa-exam-scores-results-july-august-2009-wave-1-wave-2.html

  • Just curious, if Auditing is one of the easiest parts, then why is it the longer?

    Thanks.
